Just a few decades ago, the Baekdusan volcano erupted for the first time in centuries. It came with it the standard response to such tragedies. International relief organisations traveled to the caldera, treating the injured, cleaning out the devastation, and evacuating those that remained. However, this eruption was but the first of the Earth's reawakening.

In Siberia, an area inhabited by a long dormant flood basalt saw the ground rise up, and began releasing gases. This captured the fascination of the general population, some of whom even traveled to the region to witness this phenomenon. However, the climatologists and geologists saw the worst.

Conditions generally grew worse on Earth. The ocean and the rain turned acidic, disrupting the food and water supplies of many regions. Crops dissolved, water towers poisoned, purification plants unable to cope.

The worst case scenario was that this event which caused a mass extinction some odd quarter-billion years would repeat. Unfortunately, this was exactly it.

In response, the Arkship Initiative was created to preserve the human race. A series of starships built in orbit, transporting thousands of humans in cryostasis to a habitable world that has been observed for quite some time.

This is the only way in which you can hope to survive this calamity; you've been studying for quite some time, hopefully to successfully apply to the Initiative. Just take a test to see if you are deemed suitable for this mission, and if you are, you'll be on your way to the new planet.
